Kasargod, Dec 29: The annual general body meeting of The Bela Public Welfare Co-operative Society and felicitation of the newly elected members in the local body elections was held on Tuesday December 29 at Kumbla.

Fr John Vas, vicar forane of Kasargod deanery, advocate Thomas D’Souza, president, Raju Stephan D’Souza, vice-president, Richard Crasta P, director, and Jasmine Sony D’Souza, secretary were present on the dais.

Newly elected members Elizabeth Crasta, Kumbdaje, Avinash Machado, Paivalike, Shanthi D’Souza, Puthige, Sunitha Walty D’Souza, Paivalike and well-known journalist, cine-serial director Stany Bela from the district were felicitated by Fr John Vas and the board of directors.

Congratulating the achievers, Fr John Vas said, “Getting elected by people for local bodies is a golden opportunity to serve people and help the society. Once a person is elected as the representative of people, he should serve people without any discrimination of political background or religion. The Bela Public Welfare Co-operative Society is proud to say that its five members got elected in the local body elections held a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, we have a young achiever Stany Bela who is also from our district and a member of our society. We consider him as an asset of our society. I wish all achievers success in their future public life.

“I also congratulate the board of directors and all the members of The Bela Public Welfare Co-operative Society on their completion of another successful year. Every single drop makes a mighty ocean. Similarly, every small saving in a bank could become huge deposits in future years. Visionary leadership will help the bank to reach more heights,” he said.

In his presidential address, advocate Thomas D’Souza said, "I am very proud to announce the overwhelming growth of our society in comparison with other societies in our neighbourhood. This tremendous achievement was possible due to the present management and mainly due to the wholehearted support from the priests and parishioners of the Kasargod deanery. I bow to them for their contribution in nurturing this society.”

On behalf of the achievers, Elizabeth and Stany Bela shared their feelings.

Raju Stephan Kumbla welcomed the invitees and gathering. Jasmine Sony D’Souza presented the annual report of the society. Alphonse D’Souza, Kayyar and Richard Crasta presented the balance sheet and budget for the upcoming year.

Piyad Crasta rendered the vote of thanks. Stany Lobo, Kollangana compered the programme.
