Bengaluru, Dec 30: "Even though three who returned from the United Kingdom have been found to have been infected by the new COVID strain, there is no proposal before the state government to enforce lockdown or seal down again," clarified minister for health and medical education, Dr K Sudhakar. He was speaking to media persons near his residence on Tuesday December 29.

Sudhakar said that those who have tested positive and others who were in their primary contacts have been isolated and treated. He said that those primary and secondary contacts of the above people who travelled by the same flight swill be identified. "We have already written to the flight operators seeking this information. The situation is under control and we have taken all steps to stop the spread of the infection. There is no need to panic," he assured.

Sudhakar said that the effect of the new strain of the virus is not deadly and the people, without lending ears to rumours, should strictly follow the guidelines of the government. He said that the vaccine is expected to be received in January.

He said that the home ministry has been informed about those who came from Britain but skipped the COVID tests. He revealed that the officials have promised to identify such people within 48 hours. He warned that legal action will be instituted if the concerned do not come forward to undergo the tests.
