Udupi, Dec 31: “Waste disposal and processing should be conducted in respective houses,” said district panchayat chief executive officer Dr Naveen Bhat. He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar with the cooperation of municipal council and the department of horticulture on involving farmers for processing of wet waste in the villages on Thursday December 31.

“Waste is being disposed of suitably in the district and Udupi is leading in it when compared to other districts. Awareness should be created regarding processing of waste in houses,” he said.

District panchayat chief project officer Srinivas Rao said that the world is facing problems regarding disposal of waste. “The process of disposal should begin from respective houses. Segregation of waste in houses and their scientific processing will solve the problem to some extent,” he said.

Horticulture department deputy director Bhuvaneshwari said that disposal of wet waste is essential. “SLRM units are processing waste in rural areas. Farmers should understand how to process excess waste at their levels in the demonstrations and make use of the knowledge,” she said.

Resource person Dr Joshi Cherian said that we should make use of the natural resources available in nature. “We should keep the environment clean and make it grow,” he said.

Horticulture department assistant director Hemanth, Sahas organization management official Mahesh Kumar, organic farmer Gopala Naika and others were present.
