CM lauds Shivamogga Rangayana for strengthening professionalism in theatre

Shivamogga, Jan 2: Chief minister B S Yediyurappa lauded the role of Shivamogga Rangayana in strengthening professionalism in theatre during the last decade.

The chief minister, who is on an official visit to his home district on Saturday, was speaking after unveiling the new website of Shivamogga Rangayana.

The chief minister said the Shivamogga Rangayana was attracting theatre enthusiasts through its series of theatre activities.



Ranga Sankranti National Theatre Festival, World Citizen International Theatre Festival, World Theatre Day and many other theatre activities were being regularly held by the Shivamogga Rangayana. Its repertory has organized theatre shows in different parts of Karnataka under the Rangatheru banner, he said.

He warmly appreciated the initiative of the Shivamogga Rangayana in conducting online theatre programmes through the online medium last year when the COVID-19 pandemic had resulted in causing a setback for holding public shows.

The Rangayana movement was the dream child of theatre stalwart B V Karanth and after originating in Mysuru had progressed into having branches at four different places, he said pointing out that a Suvarna Samskruthi Bhavan has been constructed for the Shivamogga unit and the state government was taking all steps to provide necessary encouragement.

The director of Shivamogga Rangayana Sandesh Javali welcomed. BJP Lok Sabha member B Y Raghavendra, MLA Araga Jnanendra, MLCs Ayanur Manjunath and Rudregowda, deputy commissioner of the district K B Shivakumar, Shivamogga zilla panchayat chief executive officer Vaishali, Ranga samaj member Halaswamy and others were among the dignitaries who attended the function.
