Udupi: Youngster sets himself ablaze, loses life

Udupi, Jan 4: A 20-year-old young college drop out doused himself with petrol before torching himself. The young man, identified as Srivatsava, breathed his last at Manipal Hospital on Sunday January 3 morning after efforts made to save his life failed.

Srivatsava was the son of Srinivas, residing in Vishwas Trade Apartment,Badagubettu. When studying in first year BA degree class in a private college here, he had discontinued studies. For some issues, he was depressed and was being treated in Manipal Hospital for the same.

On the night of January 2, he had tried to immolate himself near MGM College ground. The Udupi fire brigade personnel, who were informed about it, went there, rescued him, and admitted him to Manipal hospital. However, the youth, who had suffered serious burn injuries, died without responding to treatments on Sunday.

A case about this incident was registered in the town police station here.
