Mangaluru: Property E Khata registration hit by technical snag in software

Mangaluru, Jan 7: The process of E Khata registration in order to record authorised and unauthorised sites, buildings and all details relating to property rights within the city limits are on. Now, several technical problems have cropped up in the E Khata software.

In rural areas, Record of Rights, Tenancy and Crops (RTC) is issued to people. In the city limits, Khata was being issued. Later, Karnataka Municipal Data Society, in association with the National Informatics Centre, developed a property software and E Khata was implemented. This software helps urban local bodies to register official, unauthorised and illegal property details and to make changes or transfer properties as may be necessary. There is provision to issue copies of the property details with a digital signature. E Khata is in use at the city corporation here.

Problem: Each piece of land within the city corporation limits is surveyed by the corporation and identity number is issued. Even though the issuance of ID had been initiated under the Nirmal Nagar Yojana of the central government, it has covered only 50 per cent of the land. Now property ID number has to be mentioned when making an E Khata entry. In many cases, this ID number is not available. At present, those without ID are being given new ID matching the ID of the neighbouring land. There is a lurking fear that this might lead to a major problem in the future.

Because of this problem, now people have to frequently visit the corporation as it takes time to issue E Khata. If mistakes are found after registration, they can be set right only at the Bengaluru office. Experts feel that it would be better if all the current properties are surveyed first and ID numbers for other properties should be given and E Khata should be issued after this work is completed.

City corporation commissioner, Akshay Sridhar, said that the corporation has arranged to issue E Khata without any problems for the people.
