Bengaluru: BBMP drive to clear unauthorised religious structures in city

Bengaluru, Jan 28: After getting reprimanded by the high court, the Palike here had conducted survey in all the eight zones and prepared a list of religious buildings occupying public places in the city. The high court has asked the concerned to prepare a list before February 5.

In its order relating to a public interest litigation, the Supreme Court, through an order issued n 2009, had ordered to clear religious centres occupying public places. As per the order, those constructed before September 29, 2009 have to be regularised, shifted or cleared. But the structures which came thereafter have to be mandatorily cleared.

BBMP commissioner N Manjuna Prasad reported that the corporation has prepared a list of illegal religious structures in 108 wards of the corporation and that notices will soon be issued to buildings constructed after September 29, 2009.
