Bantwal, Feb 1: Thieves broke into a house at Nelyapalke in Maninalkur village in this taluk on the night of Saturday January 30 and took away 22 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 1.5 lac in cash.

The thieves entered the house, belonging to a local identified as Abdul Khader. They took away golden chains, rings, pearl necklace etc along with cash as stated above. The police said that the theft occurred on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The thieves had entered the house by bending the rods of the backside window of the house. The theft came to light when the family members got up the next morning.

After they were informed, personnel of Bantwal rural police station visited the spot and scrutinized the crime scene. Sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts were summoned. Even though a CCTV camera has been fitted to the house, the camera was not in operation when the theft took place, it is said. There were rumours which speculated the locals were involved with the theft.

It may be recalled that thieves had made unsuccessful attempt to steal valuables from a bar, church and nearby shops near here two days back.
