Mangaluru: Enthusiastic sea of cyclists participate in MRPL cyclothon

Mangaluru, Feb2: MRPL Cyclothon, as part of SAKSHAM 2021, was organised on January 31 in the city.

SAKSHAM is a celebration to promote energy conservation among the industry and the general public, under the aegis of MOPNG (Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas).

MRPL organised this cycle rally in association with various clubs and cycling enthusiasts of Mangaluru. More than 500 young and old enthusiasts from the city participated in the event. Organisations like Mangalore Bicycle Club, We Are Cycling, Mangalore Cycling Club and Cycling Buddies were part of the rally.



Vedavyas Kamath, MLA of Mangaluru south flagged off the rally in the presence of Sanjay Varma, director of refinery, Rajeev Kushwah, ITS, chief vigilance officer and S P Kamath, GGM-Tech Services. Sudheer Pai, CGM – Process Engg, Peter Praveen Pinto, GM – TS and other senior officials of MRPL were also present during the occasion. Mangaluru City Traffic Police had made adequate arrangements for the smooth flow of traffic during the rally.

The rally started at 6.45 am in front of Mangala Stadium and ended at Canara High School after covering a distance of 7 km. The cycling route followed was through Kulur Ferry Road, Infosys building and back to Canara High School, Urwa.

While speaking on the occasion, Vedavyas Kamath, said that it is a good initiative by MRPL to organise a cycle rally of such magnitude under SAKSHAM. "Under Smart City Project, separate cycle tracks will be formed in the city to encourage cycling," he said. Sanjay Varma, said, "Cycling ensures good exercise to our body and MRPL continues to promote activities which protect our environment."

SAKSHAM 2021 under the theme ‘Green and Clean Energy’ is being observed in MRPL from January 16 to February 15. PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) takes the lead in organising SAKSHAM in oil and gas sector and has scheduled a cyclothon on January 31 all over the country.
