Mumbai, Feb 11 (IANS): After a successful run in Delhi and Haryana, SpiceHealth and BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have launched three mobile RT-PCR testing laboratories in Mumbai, officials said here on Thursday.

Accredited by NABL and ICMR, these mobile units have been set up near the three jumbo Covid-19 facilities in Bandra Kurla Complex, NSCI Worli and NESCO Goregaon.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray inaugurated the mobile lab online in the BKC in the presence of Tourism Minister Aditya Thackeray, CMD of SpiceJet Ajay Singh, and SpiceHealth CEO Avani Singh.

The SpiceHealth, a healthcare company promoted by private airlines SpiceJet, has already carried out over 7,80,000 RT-PCR tests in Haryana and Delhi, where the first facility was launched in November 2020 at the AIIMS by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan. The facilities now conduct around 20,000 tests daily.

The company has set up five mobile labs in government-designated spots in Delhi-Haryana, a testing facility at Manesar, and a genome-sequencing facility at New Delhi Airport, with similar plans for Mumbai, according to civic officials.

Pioneering the concept of mobile labs that could be taken to the remotest locations and containments zones or villages lacking access to good hospitals and affordable medicare, the tests are carried out at Rs 499 and the results are made available within six hours, said the company.
