Mumbai, Feb 14: A fake Facebook profile of senior IPS officer Vinoy Choubey by a fraudster who used it to con people off money. The accused sent friend requests from the fake account and sought financial help. An account number of an e-commerce payment system was also provided to the people by the fraudster.

On realising what has happened, the senior IPS officer informed the city cyber police. The investigators blocked two fake Facebooks and the payment account. Choubey is 1995 batch officer and an Anti-Corruption Bureau additional director-general of police in the state.

Alerting people from fraudsters using such means, Choubey said, “Please do not accept any such friend request. The authorities have been informed and they are taking appropriate action."
