Mangalore, Jul 21: A meeting was held between Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Kasargod police at Karnataka Bank Auditorium, Kodialbail, on Wednesday July 21.

The topic of discussion was control of border crime.

Western Range Inspector general of police (IGP) Gopal B Hosur said that the meeting involved exchange of information, cases of missing women, unidentified dead bodies, increase of terrorism in the twin districts, organized crime, and many other problems faced by the districts.

A similar meeting was conducted recently in Kannur district of Kerala where only top officers were present. After the success of that meet, this meeting was held with the presence of police officials of all ranges from the twin districts which will help find culprits quickly.

Mangalore and Kasargod police have co-operated in solving some criminal cases in the past when culprits who committed crime in Kasargod hid in DK district and vice versa.

“Special officers will be deputed in both districts and the commissionerate will establish a sophisticated control room where only the special officers will exchange information take the initiative to solve problems. These measures will help curb illegal liquor and sand mining activity in the twin districts”, added Gopal.

Kasargod superintendent of police Prakash also said that this meeting has helped the police track the culprits and thus decrease the crime rate in the district. He added that a special officer will be deputed in his district to handle crime.

When media persons raised a question about illegal liquor and sand transporting from Mangalore to Kasargod, the IGP said that the district administration and police will work together to curb the illegal activities.

City commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, superintendent of police Dr Maheshwar Rao, district commissioner of police (crime and traffic) M Muthuraya, and additional deputy commissioner Prabhakar were present at the meeting.

Such meetings have a temporary effect. There should be a national law governing all the state police forces to curb inter state border crimes. Crime thrieves in our country because of this loop hole and nobody seems to be interested in setting things right. But will our politicians listen?????. NO, Because, if central controls are brought on the state police, then our politicians will be powerless and most un-happy as they will have no hold on the people who ultimately benefit from an un-biased Police Force.

    This is called innovation :)...

Truely this is a good move both the police forces of Karnataka & Kerala. But would be challenging job also, now they have to show the people in this area, the joint efforts made both polices forces have reduced the crime in this region. It's not only the words, but even statistics should show it..

    All best both police forces.
