Udupi, Jul 30: MP D V Sadanand Gowda of Udupi – Chikmagalur constituency urged the union government to make necessary changes to plug inadequacies of deemed universities across the country, thereby securing the future of thousands of students.
D V during the parliamentary session held on Thursday July 29, raised the issue of causes that led the union government to withdraw the deemed university status of many education institutions in all over the country, the measures taken by union government to plug the inadequacies and falling education standards in deemed universities and also what actions are to be taken to safeguard the future of thousands of students at these universities.
Union human resources development assistant minister D Purandareshwari in her reply said that union government has appointed a review committee to study the falling education standards of education
institutions that enjoy the status of deemed universities. On the basis of extensive report by review committee, the recognition of deemed university status of 44 education institutions were withdrawn. Meanwhile, the issue lies in Supreme Court for its judgment. Union government is in the process of tabling a bill in the parliament shortly, to devise uniform norms and standard evaluation methods for all deemed universities in the country, she added.
