Mangalore, Aug 2: Minister for higher education Aravind Limbavali recommended the idea of holding vidyarthi adalat in City to find solution to the problems of students in the region.

Addressing reporters after visiting the Mangalore CET Counselling Centre at the Sahyadri Institute of Technology here on Sunday, the Minister said that the adalat will be held either in September or October after holding discussions with the officials. At the adalat, the university vice chancellors, officials, student representatives and related parties will meet and discuss problems facing education system and policy-making. Similar programmes are in the pipeline for other centres in the state in the next phase, he added.

The Minister blamed that the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is creating unnecessary confusion by delaying the necessary clearance for CET counselling process for engineering seats in the state. “Since the academic year commences in the State in September, the AICTE should have given the clearance by May. The state had to postpone the CET counselling as the AICTE clearance was delayed,” he said. The matter has been brought to the notice of the Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal.

Limbavali said that the 110 rural CET training centres opened by the government yielded commendable result with 16,000 students receiving the training so far with 60% students becoming eligible for counselling.

Talking about the Mangalore CET Counselling Centre, the Minister said that the response was more compared to other centres. He also added that the government is planning to introduce AICTE salary scale to lecturers in the state too beginning with government and aided colleges.
