Bengaluru, Apr 29: A person who remained adamant at not allowing the ambulance staff to take the body of his wife who died of coronavirus infection, created a scene for some time. This incident happened late night on Tuesday at Vidyaranyapura here. Later, senior police officers had to intervene to take the body away.

Shivu, the husband mentioned above, works for a private company. He lived in Singapore, Vidyaranyapura here with his wife and two daughters. On April 26, his wife, Girija (41), was identified with corona infection and she was in home isolation. On Tuesday, she experienced breathing difficulties. Shivu with his children visited several hospitals but failed to get a bed for Girija. They returned home disappointed and frustrated. Girija passed away at night. Thereafter Shivu consumed liquor and was lying in a part of the house. The children were wailing aloud. The neighbours who heard them weeping, informed the police. The police reached there and found that the woman was dead.

When the police and ambulance staff arrived, Shivu stopped them. He said he had not eaten for three days and had food in their presence. He said he would not hand over the body till the minister and corporator come there. He abused the government and health minister in a filthy language. After about an hour, senior police officers came there and took custody of the body.

A sheer failure on part of the government. There was enough time to prepare for the second wave and govt. did not even have a plan for the second wave. People have to bear the brunt of this negligence.
