Bill and Melinda Gates announce divorce after 27-year marriage

Washington, May 4 (IANS): Bill and Melinda Gates have announced in a joint statement that they were getting divorced after 27 years of marriage.

"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage," the couple tweeted on Monday.

According to reports, they met in the late 1980s when Melinda joined Microsoft, reports Xinhua news agency.

They have three children and jointly run the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

"We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives," they tweeted.

"We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life."

Bill Gates is the fourth wealthiest person in the world, according to Forbes.

    What a tragedy. Even all comforts in the world can not teach a couple how to make sacrifices, how to love, how to live and hold onto each other in times of uncertainty, difficulty and growing up. They would have been a model couple if they had to show their love by continuing to live and respect their matrimonial vows. Wish them good.

    Still 27years weren't enough for them to understand each other well. Moral of the story: money can't buy happiness,marriage,emotions ,love or whatever to do with morals..

    Very sad to hear the news. With 54.8 Billion US dollar grant as on end 2019, the Bill and Milinda Gates benevolence has reached all over the globe. Good that they have mentioned that the foundation with more than 1600 employees will continue to grant aid as usual. Any way, wish them all good for their future.

    All god's wishes. When you are in mother's womb Lord Brahma writes your fate. No one can change/alter it. We are just actors come and act on this earth. Actually nothing is our achievement. All done by God. If he need he will take it back within a fraction of second. Better do whatever you want in life. Who knows tommorow what happens. Nothing like punishment after death. As we are childrens of God Good or Bad only see on this earth. See what happens to Bill Gates..a multi billionaire..after 27 years living together separated. How he face the society. Many of them adore him as a role model.
