Karwar, Jun 8: Fisheries and ports minister, S Angara, said that he has been hearing from the fishermen that fishermen from Kerala and Goa have been violating fishing ban and undertaking fishing in the state's waters. In order to serve the interests of the state's fishermen, the state will contemplate bringing amendment to The Karnataka Marine Fishing (Regulation) Act, he stated.

The minister visited the sea erosion-prone Gabita Keni seashore near Ankola on Monday June 7, gathered the details and responded to queries made by the media persons.

He said that new project to provide permanent solution for sea erosion would be formulated. He said he is aware that the fishermen, in addition to fish famine, have also been suffering because of sea erosion. He assured to discuss with the chief minister the allegation that a few fishermen are facing injustice due to the fishermen's package announced by the government.

Director of the fisheries department Sriramacharya, deputy director P Nagaraju, ports officer Manjunath Namadhari, tahsildar Uday Kundar and others were present.
