Bantwal, Aug 27:
The incessant rain that has lashed the taluk since the past three days withered many roads including the Mangalore–Bangalore National Highway 48.  The stretch of NH 48 from Farangipet to Mani is in a deplorable condition with dangerous potholes.

The potholes along NH 48 were covered with bitumen and gravel by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI)) a few days ago, ahead of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s visit.  However, owing to the incessant rain and heavy vehicular traffic, the patchwork on pot-holes has given way.  Motorists and two-wheeler riders have a nightmarish time maneuvering on the numerous potholes along NH 48.

The meteorology department stated that the taluk recorded 65 mm of rainfall on the three days, which has put general life out of gear.  Motorists and the general public have urged NHAI to undertake urgent repairs to the pot-holed highway for smoother traffic.

Elect BJP again!!! Chief Minister spends more time in temples and promises more money to them than to road repair. Just recently CM was in Mangalore. I just wonder ,what He saw in Mangalore. He is more worried about His cow slaughter bill.

This shows how much tax payer’s money has been pocketed by the corrupt practises of our country. I remember seeing one road in Sharjah, after heavy rain fall several years ago, that the road was intact and the soil underneath washed away. How anyone can say rain ruins the road if proper and sufficient material is used. Soil in Sharjah is very thin sand and no one can blame the authorities for soil being washed away and the road is intact. Do you think comparison is really bad?

The condition of nh 48 is really in sorry-state. recently i had been to mangalore by bus from mumbai because the konkan railway was closed. but the NH 17 was as bad as NH48. the condition was so bad 3 ladies in the bus got the backpain and one even worst because she had a slip disc problem. why the karnataka government is least bothered about the national highways since they are connecting two major cities within the state or the two state. Are we get insulted by our own deeds?

I don’t think so that incessant rain can damage the road. It only happening in Karnataka ( or India)
Else were in the world the road is not getting damaged by rain. . this is the result of poor road work . this will keep continue until the end . some of us called "this is development "
