Mangalore, Sep 4: An information booklet, Police Diary, brought out by Vijay Karnataka Kannada daily, was released by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, on Friday September 3. A function in this connection was organized at the Karnataka Bank hall in Kodailalbail in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Palemar hailed Vijay Karnataka for giving a thrust to the number of newspaper readers in rural sectors and encouraging a passion for reading among the masses. “Because of these qualities, this daily has emerged as the top choice of Kannada readers,” he commented.

The minister noted that the people in general, do not have proper idea or information about the police department, even though the police serve the society round the clock. He said the police department is happy at the initiative undertaken by Vijay Karnataka to bring out an information booklet about their department and to distribute them to the masses.

Police commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh, felt that the release of the booklet is an honour for his department. “We are always prepared to communicate with the people directly. This may help us to get information that we do not have access to as of now, and it might help us towards better policing. The policemen, who at times, have to work under very difficult circumstances, will be buoyed to become more dedicated to their profession, with the encouragements like this one,” he felt.

Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, expressed the hope that the booklet might be able to decimate wrong opinions the people may be having about the police department. “I am happy that this has happened in the district of intelligent people. I am happy to note that there are plans to bring out such booklets elsewhere in the state too. Vijay Karnataka deserves to be congratulated for doing something that my department should have done. The people should not just keep the diary aside. They should go through it in detail,” he requested.

Western range inspector general of police, Alok Mohan, presided. Vijay Karnataka response head, Sundar Kundoor, and general manager (south), Arun K R, were present. Resident editor for Mangalore edition, U K Kumarnath, delivered the introductory address. Senior reporter, B Ravindra Shetty, presented the programme.
