Kundapur, Jun 28: “The health department has worked really hard in Covid management. The services of the department at Kundapur are commendable. The department is creating awareness about Dengue and Malaria and taking precautions,” said Kundapur taluk working journalist’s association president, Shashidhar Hemmady. He was speaking after inaugurating an anti-Malaria workshop held by the district health and family welfare department and communicable disease control programme for journalists at the office of Udupi taluk health office, here.

Resource person, Covid-19 special officer, Dr Premananda said that the health department conducts examinations for communicable diseases that are often found during the monsoons. “Malaria, Dengue, Chikungunya etc spread through mosquitoes. We can protect ourselves from them by preventing the growth of mosquitoes. Mosquitoes grow and spread in stagnant water,” he said.

“Four cases were reported in 2019, one case in 2020 and two malaria cases were reported in Kundapur till May end. 47 dengue cases in 2019, 26 in 2020 and two in 2021 were reported. The Chikungunya case in 2019 was one, nil in 2020 and one during 2021. Filaria was not found in the taluk last year. One case of brain fever was found in 2019,” he said.

Kundapur taluk health officer, Dr Rajeshwari and Patrakartara Sangha secretary Nagaraja Rayappanamata were present. Bhagyalaxmi compered the programme.
