Udupi, Jul 1: “The high court has directed the police department to not disclose any information during an investigation of cases. Journalists should realize that some people can misuse the information,” said the member of Mangaluru University Syndicate and advocate Vivekananda Paniyala. He was speaking after inaugurating the Press Day programme held by Udupi District Working Journalists' Association at Udupi press club on Thursday.

“The journalists should also record the statements of victims along with those of the police. The news report should not influence the cases that are in progress in the court, he said.

Identity cards of the association were distributed to the members on the occasion. Patrakartara Sangha district president, Rajesh Shetty Alevoor presided over the event. Senior reporter of Vijaya Karnataka, Subrahmanya G Kurya and Suvarna TV reporter, Shashidhar Mastibailu were felicitated by Malabar Gold & Diamonds Udupi branch head, Hafiz Rehman.

District health and family welfare officer, Dr Nagabhooshan Udupa set the programme in motion. District hospital doctor, Dr Roshni Poonja, Udupi district Patrakartara Sangha working president, Rajesh Shetty Alevoor, chief secretary, Nazeer Polya, treasurer, Umesh Marpalli and others were present.

More than 50 journalists were medically examined in the seminar. M Manjunath, Rajesh Shetty Alevoor, Nazeer Polya, Umesh Marpalli, Malabar Gold GRM, Raghavendra Nayak, charity in charge Tanzim Shirva and others were present.
