Bengaluru: Public interest litigation questions holding of SSLC exam

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jul 7: A public interest litigation (PIL) filed in the high court has sought direction from the high court to the state government to pass SSLC students like the PUC students, who are being promoted without any examinations.

S V Singre Gowda, secretary of Jnana Mandira Education Trust in the city, through the PIL, has sought cancellation of the examination time table. The petition is yet to be placed before the division bench of the high court.

The petitioner has claimed that the state government's move to cancel the second PU examination but to go ahead with holding the SSLC examination smacks of discrimination. He has argued that this stand has violated the right to equality as spelt in chapter 14 of the constitution. "There are about nine lac SSLC candidates including repeaters. If some tragedy happens, the government will have to solely own responsibility," he stated.

The petitioner said that several states have cancelled the tenth standard examination while a few states have taken the bold stand to go ahead with holding the SSLC examination. He also feels that holding of the examination will result in putting the lives of the students at risk.
