Kundapur, Jul 7: “The businesses that create jobs and the employees that depend on them can remain satisfied if the government extends a helping hand to them,” said KPCC president D K Shivakumar. He was speaking in a meeting of businessmen at Sahana Convention Hall, Hangaloor on Tuesday night.

“The businesses are in deep distress due to the Corona pandemic. The financial packages and subsidies announced by the centre and the finance minister have not reached the needy yet. The banks are hesitating to extend financial concessions announced by the government. Though big capitalists somehow bear the loss, small businessmen are in deep trouble.

“Prices of essentials are skyrocketing due to constantly increasing prices of fuel and cooking oil. As we have restrictions on exploring iron ore, we depend on imported iron. The building construction industry has collapsed under the burden of exorbitant prices of iron. Economic activities are suspended after currency demonetization. The local businessmen are being pushed into the ditch of loans while foreign investors are welcomed.

“The then prime minister Manmohan Singh had implemented a clear economic policy under the guidance of Sonia Gandhi. If we refer to them now, it becomes politics. But records and history cannot be changed. The government should give priority to solve the problems of small investors. The problems will be solved when Congress comes to power in the future.”

Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA K Gopala Poojary, J D Naik Bhatkal, district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, KPCC office-bearer Raghunandan, youth Congress leader Mithun Rai, Mohammed Harris Nalapad and AICC member P V Mohan were present.

Sahana group convener Surendra Shetty gave an introduction. Sahil Rai Mangaluru compered the programme.
