Kundapur, Jul 15: “Konkani Kharvi community has its own history. The Kharvi community which is serving the society in the education sector does not have any inner conflicts. It is not right to point fingers at the whole community because of one man’s personal problems,” said Jayananda Kharvi, president of the administrative committee of Kharvikeri Mahakali temple and Arun Kharvi, president of Vidyaranga Mitra Mandali in a joint press statement.

The duo spoke at a press conference after the meeting of the community leaders which was organised at Kundapur Vidyaranga Mitra Mandali.

Jayananda and Arun further said, “Sathish Kharvi of our community had asked for financial assistance for the weight lifting competition that was held at Kazakhstan. We were getting the golden jubilee building of Vidyaranga Mitra Mandali during that time. As we had financial constraints we could not help Sathish. However, Sathish was given a warm welcome when he arrived after winning the medal in Kazakhstan. We also took a procession and honoured him in the programme organised by Vidyaranga. After receiving the felicitation, he spoke ill about the organisation. This led to arguments on social media and later registered as a private case in the court. Some people are trying to tarnish the image of the community citing the same incident. The community will take action in coming days on this matter.”

Speaking on the occasion, Chandrashekhar Kharvi, a member of Kundapur town municipality said, “It is not right to point fingers at the whole community for the wrong done by one person. Society will never err, it is only a person who commits mistakes. We were in touch when Sathish Kharvi was in Kazakhstan and celebrated his victory also. Vidyaranga Mitra Mandali has shown respect to Sathish. When he started complaining about the organisation, society kept him at bay. People like him should not be encouraged. One should work for the betterment of the community keeping away selfish motives.”

Vice president of the temple committee Ganapathi Kharvi, secretary of Vidyaranga Mitra Mandali Sandeep Kharvi, former president Vasanthi Saranga, president of Chippu labour association Janardhan Patel president of golden jubilee committee Dinakar Patel, former president of temple committee Prakash Kharvi, leaders of community Narayana Kharvi, Raghavendra Kharvi, Janardhana Kharvi and Dinesh Kharvi were present.
