Mangalore, Sep 16: Bandhavya Mangalore organized an awareness session on Right to Food on the occasion of its fifth anniversary celebrations at CODP-ISD here on Wednesday September 16.
In our country there is a Public Distribution System to provide food grains to the poor at subsidized rates. However, often it is observed that due to corruption and negligence on the part of concerned authorities, the food grains that is supposed to go to the poor and needy people does not reach them in time or in the shape it should. When citizens are aware of the fact the loopholes can be set right and the poor people in general can get the benefits of the system.
It is in this context the programme was organized to enlighten the participants of the workshop. Sr Dulcine UFS was the resource person. In the afternoon, sessions on Special Economic Zone and farmers plight were taken up.
95 members from 13 partner NGOs participated in the day’s programme. Sr Michelle BS, chairperson of Bandhavya welcomed the gathering. Fr Onil D’Souza, Secretary, gave a brief introduction of the day’s sessions. Nagendra compered the programme and Mr Shankar Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
