Bengaluru, Jul 27: The state high court, on Monday July 26, sought a report on the steps proposed to be taken by the government against the guilty, based on the magisterial inquiry conducted into the firing during anti Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in Mangaluru.

The division bench of the state high court headed by Chief Justice A S Oka passed this order on Monday when considering a public interest litigation (PIL) that has asked the HC to direct the government to form a special investigation team to look into the firing incident of December 19, 2019 at Mangaluru.

The government advocate, who appeared before the court, said that the magisterial inquiry has been completed and Udupi district deputy commissioner, Jagadeesha, had submitted his inquiry report to the government. He also handed over the report in a closed envelope to the HC.

When the HC wanted to know about steps taken on the basis of the report, the advocate said that the report is being studied and sought two weeks’ time to enable the government to take a decision.

The bench asked the government to submit its report about the steps it proposes to take against the guilty on the basis of the magisterial report to the court before August 25. It said that based on the report, the court will think whether the contents of the report can be made public.
