Mangalore: Traffic Diversion, Parking Curbs in City on Friday

Mangalore, Sep 16: The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, in tune with the recommendations of the police department, has ordered for traffic diversions and suspension of parking zones with effect from 7 pm on Friday September 17 in certain city roads. This has been necessitated on account of the immersion ceremony of Lord Ganesha idol installed at Nehru Maidan.

The procession, which will begin from Nehru Maidan, will move through A B Shetty Circle, Clock Tower, Hampankatta, K S Rao Road, Navabharat Circle, Dongerkery and New Chitra Junction, and reach car street towards its final destination, Mahamayee temple tank.

Just before the procession starts, traffic will be banned on U P Mallya Road from Hampanakatta, Muttappagudi and Nehru circle. Traffic from the direction of the office of the superintendent of police and Hamilton Circle towards A B Shetty Circle will remain banned. With effect from 5.30 pm on Friday, all vehicles including government buses bound for State Bank need to turn right at Clock Tower and move on the left hand side of the road to enter bus stand from its east entrance. Buses can reach Hamilton circle by going out through west entrance via Rao and Rao Circle.

Vehicles coming from Mangaladevi have to go back from Nehru Circle.  After the procession reaches RTO office, buses coming from Balmatta to State Bank should drop passengers at Milagres and return. Route No. 27 buses have to go back from Anand Shetty Circle.

Both sides of the road through which the procession moves, both sides of the road from Clock Tower to Hamilton Circle via Rao and Rao Circle, Hamilton Circle to Rosario Road and Nehru Circle, Hampankatta to AB Shetty Circle on U P Mallya Road and railway station road will be temporarily converted into no parking zones during the said period.

Those coming for the procession can park their vehicles on one side of Old Kent Road, Pandeshwar Road, Rosario Road and Port Road, a release from the district administration said.
