Udupi, Sep 17: Deputy commissioner (DC) of the district, Hemalata, visited Suzlon rehabilitation colony near Padubidri in the district, to examine complaints received from the residents and to sort out the issue of dumping yard for Padubidri gram panchayat, on Thursday September 16.

During her visit, the colony residents took the Suzlon officials to task for doling out to them empty promises of providing basic amenities, community hall, school, play ground, hospital, park etc., and then failing to provide any of them. They told the DC that the company, which had given a written commitment to provide all the facilities, has failed even to arrange for proper drinking water supply and underground drainage system in the colony.

The DC asked Ashok Shetty, representative of the company, to attend to the problems faced by the residents here. She said she will hold detailed discussions with the company towards solving the problems of the colony residents.

She also visited the plot of 50 cents located by the side of the above colony, which has been provided by Suzlon to Padubidri gram panchayat for setting up a dumping yard. The residents of Suzlon Rehabilitation Colony have been strongly opposing the location of the dumping yard. The DC then asked those opposing the yard, to show on their own, a proper site for setting up of a dumping yard for Padubidri, as a dumping yard has to be urgently set up as per the government’s instructions.  She asked the local zilla panchayat, taluk panchayat and gram panchayat members to come together and arrive at a consensus on this issue at the earliest, duly pledging wholehearted support from the district administration for such efforts.

It may be recalled that the local people had opposed the earlier proposal to locate the dumping yard near Abbedy.

Udupi taluk tahsildar, V PrasannaKumar, zilla panchayat member, Shashikant Padubidri, taluk panchayat member, Neeta Gururaj, panchayat president, Vijayalakshmi Acharya, members, officials of the company and others were present during the visit of the DC.
