Mangalore: P A Institution Clarifies Ragging Video Clippings as Skit

Mangalore, Sep 21: P A Institutions director (administration) K M Haneef on Tuesday September 21 clarified that the video clippings circulated as well as telecast in some media allegedly as that of ragging incident that took place in P A College of Engineering was infact clippings of a skit based on ragging enacted by students of P A Polytechnic.

Addressing media persons, Haneef said that the news that was published in some papers and telecast through some media mostly between September 9 to September 12. The institution had remained closed during the said period, he added dismissing any possibility of the occurrence of such instance.

Haneef said that wrong information on the video tape was given to media men by some unscrupulous elements with the intention of tampering the reputation of the college. A committee formed by the college management to conduct inquiry into the matter have enquired students and the fact that has emerged is that the video was filmed at P A College hostel during their study holidays in October 2009. Moreover, the video clippings showed part of skit based on ragging being rehearsed by P A Polytechnic students, who are still good friends having studied together for about 15 months and not P A Engineering students as it is widespread, he explained. He added that students regretted that a video recorded through mobile and circulated among friends for fun proved detrimental to institution's reputation.

An FIR has been filed under section 154 at Konaje police station to investigate as to who misinformed the media men.

Institution registrar Iqbal, P A Polytechnic principal Prof G Ramalingan Gowd, administrative officer Dr R G D’Souza and student welfare officer Prof Surfraz Hasim were also present.
