Mangalore: Wretched Highways – Shetty Blames State Government

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 22: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary, Vijay Kumar Shetty, said that the state government is not justified in blaming the central government for the despicable state of the highways here.

“The state government has to conduct a detailed inspection, wherever highways crossing through it get damaged due to natural calamities. Once it takes up the issue with the central government and sends proposals to repair the roads, the union government releases funds for road repairs. This year too, the central government has released sufficient funds to the state. However, the state BJP government has miserably failed in utilizing the funds so released,” he said, addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday September 21.

He also criticized the district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, for failing to take steps to repair the highways in Dakshina Kannada district. He demanded for imposing a ban on inter-state sand transportation, and for initiating stern action against illegal sand mining, with immediate effect.

Former mayors, Shashidhar Hegde and Ashraf, leader of the opposition in the city council, D K Ashok Kumar, corporators, Harinath, Navin D’Souza, Deepak Poojary and several other leaders were present at the press conference.

So why dont you give the figures of the funds released, Mr. KPCC general secretary? I think all are too content playing blame game, that is it. Last week I was lucky that my maruti 800 did not land in a crater on the NH 17 from Udupi to mangalore, which i am sure would have disabled my car!!
