Udupi, Sep 24: “The blocks within us, created on the basis of caste, religion and gender differences, should be demolished. We should allow real human values to bloom within us. In tune with the constitutional aims, everyone should be able to get equal rights. Although women have been trying to create an imprint in all the fields, this has not been happening everywhere. As women have not been able to succeed in all fields because of lack of awareness on their part, they can set themselves free only when they become aware through education,” felt well-known writer and ‘Nadoja’ awardee, Dr Sara Abubakar. At the same time, she expressed satisfaction about the progress being achieved by women in the recent times.

She was delivering a lecture on the topic of ‘contemporary woman’ at a programme organized by the Kannada postgraduate department of Tenkanidyoor government first grade college here on Thursday September 23. The programme was held under the aegis of the women’s studies centre of Mangalore University.

College principal, Prof J Yoganand, presided. The programme began with a folklore song rendered by the students of the college. Head of the department of Kannada, Dr Gananath Yekkar, welcomed. Coordinator of the women’s studies centre of the university, Dr Shobha Devi, delivered introductory address. Dr Niketan proposed vote of thanks. Lecturer, Jayaprakash Shetty, compered the programme.
