Udupi, Sep 17: "The faith Hindus have in their gods is not superstition. No one can build temples on the basis of falsehood. There are valid reasons for creating Naga Banas. The presence of Shakti Peetas is absolutely necessary. No politician has the guts to question namaz being offered by crowds on the roads by blocking the traffic. Demolition of temples where the presiding deity was being worshipped for hundreds of years is a conspiracy aimed at hurting the sense of unique identity prevailing among the Hindus. This is backed by unseen hands having international base. This is an effort to damaging the religious faith of the Hindus," said Premananda Shetty Kundapur, member of the national board of trustees of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

He was delivering the keynote address after participating in the protest meeting organized in front of the Martyrs Memorial at Ajjarkad here on Thursday September 16 against the forcible demolition of the ancient Sri Mahadevamma Bhyraveshwara temple in Nanjangud, Mysuru district.

He said that the areas which were predominantly inhabited by the Hindus in the past, because of the inability of the Hindus to assert the truth and because of their nature of remaining silent, the Hindus are paying the price and Bangladesh and Afghanistan were created. "Going by the haste with which the officials are going ahead with temple demolitions, it appears that there is prize for achieving this target. By demolishing temples, the concerned are testing the patience of the Hindus. The temple was built in tune with the requirements of the civilization that was present 5,000 years back. The road was built later. The temple was not built on the road," he pointed out.

Shetty stated that there seems to be a general feeling that opposing such things is entirely the responsibility of VHP and Bajrang Dal. "If the things are allowed to continue as they are, the situation here will turn into the one we are witnessing in Afghanistan. In that country, there are no people to undertake protests, and Muslims do not have place to settle down in Islamic countries. As the land has already been earmarked on the basis of religion, the country has been split. Even after all these things happened, are we waiting for the Afghanistan experience to get replicated here?" he wondered.
