Mangalore, Oct 22: Valmiki Jayanti was celebrated in the city at a programme organised jointly by the district administration and SC/ST welfare department at Kudmul Rangarao Memorial Post-Metric Hostel here on Friday October 22.
District in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar addressed the gathering and spoke on the life of Valmiki, the author of the epic Ramayana. He said that Ramayana is a treasure trove of great ideals and celebrating Valmiki's birth anniversary will enhance the health of the society by inculcating a feeling of amity among people.''
The programme was inaugurated by MLA Yogish Bhat.
Chief guests Prof K Abhay Kumar, K Santhosh Bhandary, president of ZP, MLA UT Khader, Shantha R, Haleshappa, president of Valmiki Sangha, Dr Vijay Prakash, commissioner of MCC, Prabhulinga Kavalikatti and tahsildar Manjunath among others were present.
