Mangalore: People's Union for Civil Liberties to Voice against Police Atrocities

Mangalore, Oct 26: The People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) a national organization wedded to protect human rights, will organize a ‘people’s audit on police torture’ in the Karavali belt on Saturday December 11 and Sunday December 12, said Victor D’Silva, president of the committee at a press meet held here on Tuesday October 26.

He said India is a witness to a very sad situation where criminals, communalists and anti-social elements have infiltrated into politics, bureaucracy and police department. As a result, custodial deaths, police torture, extortion and encounters by the police have grown phenomenally. Government doctors and judiciary have shamelessly joined hands with the police. Honest citizens are exploited and tortured, he alleged. 

Those who are all victims of police torture and also have suffered at the hands of government doctors and judiciary were requested to file their complaints with all relevant informations and documents with name and address of eye witness wherever available by Tuesday November 30 at PUCL office situated at ‘Pauline’, Muller’s Road Valencia, Mangalore.

Those wishing to remain anonymous, because of fear of police department may also file their complaints without any fear, as their names will be kept confidential.

Suresh Bhat, Kabeer and P B D’sa among others were present.

    Frankly speaking by the first look, these guys in the photograph above themselves look a bit crooked to me..but since looks can be deceiving and if they are really genuine and not like some of the NGOs and media who use it to blackmail others, as a political tool, or money making business, it is good to have such an organization to keep a balance and help nail the guilty and uphold human rights...Judiciary...yes..sadly the strongest pillar of our overdosed democracy too has become extremely corrupt.
