Mangalore, Oct 28:
It was celebration time at Pakshikere's St Jude Thaddeus Church and shrine here on Thursday October 28 as it celebrated its golden jubilee with great zest and devotion. The week-long celebrations drew to a grand end with the parish feast graced by Bangalore archbishop Dr Bernard Moras and other priests.

Sri Vishweshatirta Swamiji of Pejawar Math, Udupi, was the chief guest during stage programme that followed the Mass. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Christians are well-known for rendering their service for various causes, and nobody could match them in this regard. Despite there being many religions there is only one god to whom one must pray with faith and confidence, he stressed, and added that law cannot change the society, but love and forgiveness can. He further said that one must pay 'tax' to the society by rendering one's services and lauded the efforts of Christian missionaries who have been serving the society in remote, rural parts of the country.

Moreover, he opined that there was a need for a 'memorandum of understanding (MoU)' among the religious leaders. This way, there will not be any communal clashes, he said, and added that the justice system is sometimes unilateral as in some cases good works are not recognised  by the court of law.

He spoke after accepting the honours by Dr Bernard Moras. He then handed over the keys of houses built for the poor people, sponsored by John Carnelio of Udupi.

Dr Bernard Moras who presided over the programme said that all should be united while praying to god with devotion and stressed that the holy books viz Bible, Quran and Bhagavathgeetha teach the same message.

Donors who had donated generously for various projects of the parish were honoured. Special issue of 'Yatrik,' the shrine magazine was released and Fr Stanly Pereira was also honoured on the occasion.

Abayachandra Jain, MLA, Mulki-Moodbidri, Fr Alfred Pinto, vicar var of Kinnigoli deanary, P M Ashraf Amsadi, Pakshikere, president SSF Suratkal division, Kodethoor Bhuvanabirama Udupa, editor, 'Yugapurusha' of Kinnigoli were the other chief guests.

Louis D’souza welcomed the gathering. Relita Cutinho delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was followed by lunch.

Elias Fernandez, managing director of Four Winds was felicitated for co-ordinating the programme.

To: Raju & Raghuram: Truth is always bitter. Those who accepts their mistakes and corrects themselves will have a blissful life. Unfortunately, some people never accept their mistakes & spend all their life in arguing & trying to prove themselves right. It's a waste of life & total failure in life. That's all for you.

Ha Ha. Hinduism or sanathana dharma cannot be damaged. It is the eternal truth. I think you are the one who needs help. Plus, you do not need to pray for anyone. The hindus are not born sinners who need to be saved. I think you need a bit of help here.

Dodhanna, Sadananda and the others. All I mentioned was to ban conversion. Why do you assume that it was only christians converting. I had it as a general statement. I do not see any hindus or muslims jumping on this and trying to clarify that hind dharma and islam does not convert. It is only the christians and their bro lovers jumping up and down.

Points noted, beloved, truly , our lord are all not dharmic verbage.

If there was a hidden agenda by the educational institutions who benefitted at that time , all communities benefitted. After 1970 and onwords many other schools started and because of thechurch schools to compete with started other schools. Somebody has to start and others will follow and by competion all will win.

Uday, nelthottu, only forceful conversion is not good. We have a constitution anybody can convert to any religion. So many Christians are converting to Hindu religion, does a single Christian objected any time? You accept conversion to Hinduism, but don’t want Hindus to convert to other religion. The reason why so many are converting to Christianity is because of fanatic people like you. God bless you dear.

Sadananda - Highly appreciate your comments. If you are from Pejavara, studied in a Christian College then I preseume it is St.Joseph's PU College, Bajpe and the Australian Brother name is Bro.Harris who is in his ripe age and now residing in Goa. Being a ex-student, I have witnessed his popularity amongst Hindu/ Muslim and Christian students.
Uday- It was our Kannada Lecturer, VEMBA (Late Kateel Venkataramana Udupa)my favourite Kannada Sir, whom I respect a lot and always will was narrating many stories from 'Gita' during his lecture, good memories to cherish with. To a person of your narrow mentality towards other religions, shall I say he was trying to convert Muslims and Christians ? I will not.

You may belong to any religion, but, pious life is what needed to reach heaven". Sadananda

True to your name you are Sad Ananda. The Brother has brainwashed you into the belief in heaven !!!?. In hindu dharma I am not sure if there is something as a heaven, this is a christian concept the same theology that Charles saldhana was promoting.

Rudolf, Pakshikere - Hare Rama, Saibaba, sri sri if they are converting then yes book them as well. Please remember they do not represent the hindu's. Anyone can start a cult based on Hindu/christian philosophy and convert, but why do you want to blame that on the hindu's. Where as the church, represents the christians. You can be converted or ostracized by the church if you do not go by their tenets.

In life does not mean you have to convert and change your name, belief etc. and then go about blaming the belief system that you came out off. If I change my opinion on something do I have to force it down my next generation as well. Can't someone give you a meaning and let you do what you have always done before.
All I said was that conversion has to be banned and you are taking offence, isn't it because you know of the hidden agenda and secretly support it. We were not born yesterday my friend.

Out of these how many are forcefully converted? How many really subscribe to your theory? Just imagine how many Americans are covnerted to HInduism? NO issues to discuss. Why blame where there is nothing to blame? Statistics prove you are absolutely wrong to the core. Doddanna (Damaskatte)

@ Uday. Yes you as a Indian and as a Hindu definitely have a voice, but who has made you a voice over the Hindu Brethren. If at all someone has to raise a voice, then it has to be the person who has been converted forcefully. Look at the global level, there are many who have joined Hare Rama Hare Krishna movement, many have become followers of Sai Baba, etc.

I must say that these people whoever they may be, found that the belief system that they adapted to found it to be cohesive and gave them meaning to their life. Its their life, its the choice that they make about what they believe in. Who has made you or me a moral godfather to every indian. We do not have a right to desacralize others personal preferences. As such anybody can just invite, joining or not is their individual choice they make when they find that yes it is giving them a meaning and purpose to their life. Hope you understand that.

    - First, we need to find out who started all this problem. If you understand that then you will see the hidden agenda of the christian missionary in India. Harmony has to be maintained regardless, but the Indian / hindus are not fools to loose our property and mountain tops for the cross. In the past 10 years there has been a tremendous push in India and south canara for building of church's and creation of parish. This needs to be contained. India should not be used as the last frontier by the vatican in it's zeal to harvest souls.
    - If you see the latest assessment of the rise in ministries in India from kerala, mangalore and tamilnadu - it is mind blowing. I am not saying this is by the roman catholics but certain denominations there off following the christian faith.
    - Do we allow all these activities and also live in harmony?. Isn't this peaceful coexistance exploited by the missionary to further their activities.?
    - The Hindu's are a majority in India and I think we have a voice as well. Harmony will prevail but there are terms for everyone to follow. Harmony should not be a mask for undesired activity. This goes for any religion or cult or culture.

Good work by the organisers. As I said earlier, my dear christian communuity is by and large peace loving and peace promoting and peace advocating community. But our dirty politicians never allow the three major communities of our great country to live peacefully and love each other. Without the word "Hindu", "Muslim" and "Christians" nobody can play politics and there is nothing much left to them. So these politicians may at time serve lip sympathy but they are not at all sincere in their hearts and approach in making peace between the communities. All communitiy leaders must join hands together in curtailing the ill concepts and strive to promote peace and inter faith dialogue. All religions preach the good things. Lets all be united and say to these deviders and hate mongers.

Once again I am happy to see the community leaders sharing the same dias and calling for the spread of peace and love. Really unity in diversity and diversity in unity. Long live diverse India.

I am thrilled to see this inter-religious meeting with so many Relgious leaders. This is a great step which is badly needed to root out weeds of division and hatred. God is like Blood in the body. If it is clean, then life goes on. If it is not clean, then trouble for life. We need this 'clean' spirit in all religions that promote "GOD SENSE" that uplifts peace, joy, love, kindness, goodness and faithfulnes in the society. St. Jude can united us all. What a beautiful scene to see leaders of various religious groups on the same platform! Hearty congratulations to the organisers of this function and for bringing the religious leaders of various religions together. This is what we truly need in Mangalore - bringing people together for common purposes and expressing our unity and common brotherhood. I hope that the Church leadership in Mangalore recognises the importance of such initiatives to bring together people of different faiths and build bridges wherever and whenever possible. Jesus precisely came to build COMMUNION as he said in John 17:22, ‘The glory which you have given me, I have given to them that they may be one, even as we are one.’ Let’s break down all the barriers and build bridges while we profess our faith courageously and live in peace and harmony.
