Mangalore, Oct 28: The state Nrithyakala Parishad in association with Sridevi Nrithya Kendra Mangalore will organise a two-day Nrithya Sammelana titled ‘Past, Present and Future of Classical Dance in Karnataka’ on Saturday Octorber 30 and Sunday October 31 at SDM College auditorium here.
Addressing a press meet here on Thursday October 28, Aarathi Shetty, director, Sri Devi Nrithya Kendra informed that eminent art critic and historian Dr Sunil Kothari and Guru Jayalakshmi Alva will preside over the proceedings on both the two days.
The event will begin with an inaugural dance by the students of Sarasa College of Fine Arts. Director of Rasika Dance Academy Kiran Subramanyam will present the scenario of classical dance in the state on the occasion.
This will be followed by presentations on dance forms prevalent in the state before the advent of the Tanjore Quartet. Guru Lalitha Srinivasan will present the Suladi tradition while Radhika Nandakumar of Mysore will perform Goundali Nrithya. Soudarya Srivasta will perform a classical dance.
Dr Aarathi Shetty, director, Shree Devi Nrithya Kendra, Jayalaxmi Alva, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and Poornima Gururaj were present.
