Mangalore: Thundershowers Again in Twin-districts

Mangalore, Oct 29: Except for the city, almost all other places in Dakshina Kannada district received rains coupled with thunder and lightning since Thursday afternoon. Udupi district, which experienced overcast conditions, did receive rains at some places.

Heavy rains and a fallen tree in Sullia blocked traffic on the road from the town to Subrahmanya. Bantwal, Puttur, Subrahmanya, and Kadaba also received heavy rains with thunder and lightning in the afternoon. Lightning injured a lady in Machchina village in Beltangady taluk, while the wall of a house owned by Kantappa developed cracks, and electrical equipments worth about Rs 50,000 were damaged.

Heavy rains were also reported from various parts of Udupi district including Malpe and Kundapur. A boy experienced shock due to lightning in Gangolli, while electrical equipments worth Rs 60,000 suffered heavy damages in Malpe.

The meteorological department has predicted light to heavy rains in some places of the coast and southern hinterlands during the period ending with Saturday morning.
