Consumers have been exploited now and again owing to lack of awareness, hence they must be made aware of their rights, said Shree N Rajashekhar, CEO, zilla panchayat, Udupi.

He spoke after inaugurating a seminar on ‘consumer empowerment and their rights’ held in Devadiga Sabhabavan, Chitpady here. The seminar was organised under the joint aegis of the information department, Udupi, Consumer Forum Udupi, NCC Camp Udupi and Rotary Club Ambalapady.

The acts meant for consumer rights are to be used for right purposes. The merits and demerits of any law can be illustrated only when it is practiced, he added.
 
Shree K Damodar Aithal, secretary of Udupi Consumer Forum and Shree H Shantharaj Aithal in their address said that the consumers have to be very careful about the qualities of products they buy.
 
Prakash Shetty, secretary of Rotary Club Ambalapady was present on the occasion. NCC officer lieutenant commander Dr K Narayana Poojari presided over the programme.
 
Shree Junjanna of information department welcomed the gathering. NCC officer Shree M R Shetty delivered the vote of thanks. Subbanna Koni conducted the programme.
