Mangaluru: Container shortage likely to be resolved soon

Mangaluru, Nov 3: The issue of shortage of containers which had caused delay in transportation of goods is likely to be resolved soon.

This global issue had caused great loss to the import business of the port city of Mangaluru. Fish, cashew nuts and coffee are the main products that are exported through containers from NMPT. The shortage of containers has almost stalled these businesses.

During the corona lockdown, many containers got blocked in China. Similarly other countries also could not send them out as trade was totally affected. So there was a shortage of containers.

The shortage of containers invariably meant that their rent would increase. The companies providing containers doubled the fare. This resulted in lesser profits to the companies who were dependent on the containers to export their goods.

Now, governments and container providing companies have entered into an agreement and the shortage is slowly getting resolved. However, experts say that it might take some months before the shortage is completely resolved.
