Bengaluru, Nov 13: There is apparently a lack of awareness about the vaccines. Because of this, the people are worried over the occurrence of pneumonia among children aged less than five.

Health experts have been discussing about modern vaccination technique to protect children in the best possible way. In the meantime, the special commissioner for health, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, inaugurated a programme on pneumococcal conjugate vaccine programme here on Friday November 12. He said that this vaccine can be affective in stopping the spread of pneumonia, meningitis and pneumococcal and other serious bacterial infections.

"Every year, 1.2 lac new births are reported in the city. Vaccines are being distributed to stop the children from suffering from pneumonia and brain fever. In urban areas and private hospitals, people pay thousands of rupees to get this vaccine within the limits of BBMP this is being given free of cost, and the people have to make best use of it," he stated.

The main aim of this vaccine distribution programme is to reduce death of children below five years of age. Small children, senior citizens and those suffering from malnutrition can get themselves vaccinated. Because of these advantages, pneumococcal conjugate vaccination is being widely publicized," he stated.
