Mangaluru, Nov 17: In spite of online frauds being reported often through newspapers and other media have been warning the people to be very cautious about people trying to squeeze money out of unsuspecting internet users, the online fraudsters continue to make merry as people keep falling prey to their tactics.
A man from the city who got caught in the web laid out by an online loan scheme, lost Rs 1.2 lac. A complaint in this regard has been registered in the cyber crimes, economic offences and narcotics (CEN) police station here.

The complainant reportedly received a call on October 19 this year. The caller introduced himself to be a representative of Aditya Birla group and promised to arrange for a loan of Rs 12 lac, the complaint has stated. The caller then included another person through conference call facility and the three discussed the proposal. During The call, the man was asked to furnish his PAN number and Aadhar card details through WhatsApp. The man fell to the lure of getting a loan easily and sent details as per their request.
On October 23, a person who said he was a representative of Bharti AXA life insurance, called the complainant. He asked the man to remit a half yearly premium of Rs 60,000 along with GST of Rs 2,700. He also sent a link to enable the person to remit the premium. The man remitted the money through two of his credit cards. After a few days, he realised that he had been taken for a raid, after which he filed the said complaint.
The police have begun investigation.
