Dear Chetan Kamath and all those who are interested in this news item -
I visited Assam along with family to know about the state. We visited Dibrugarh City which is almost at the fag end of North East.
When we visited Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Aind, SDB, Bishop of Dibrugarh, he was so happy to receive us. He said that the people of southern states have wrong notion about north eastern states and very few people visit Assam though some may visit cities like Shilong in Megalaya and Gangtok in Sikkim for tourist attraction. Assam apart from tea and rice growing state is very rich in culture, historic monuments and greenary. The Bishop was happy that a family which is involved in various activities in Mangalore visited the far end district of Assam and showed interest to know about the people and their life styles.
There is one more aspect of the felicitation which is not mentioned in this news. The Pastoral Centre of Dibrugarh Diocese had arranged a dinner in honour of this family which was presided over by the Bishop.
The Bishop felicitated us with 'Ghamosa', their traditional shawl as a token of their rich traditional culture and hospitality of the region.
    With regards,
    H. R. Alva
