Mangalore, Nov 15: Four-wheel family treasure hunt ‘Guiding Stars’, comprising drivers with normal eye sight accompanied by visually impaired navigators, was organized for children between the ages of 10-17 on Sunday November 14.

The contest was flagged off by deputy commissioner Subodh Yadav at Gandhi Nagar Park at 9.00 am.

Speaking on the occasion, Yadav lauded the efforts of the organizers and said that through this competition blind children are being given importance. He also said that efforts should be made to bring the visually impaired to the mainstream of society.

The treasure hunt was jointly organized by Mangalore Coastal Round Table 190 (MCRT 190) and Mangalore Ladies Circle 82 (MLC 82) to mark ‘Children's Day’.

Children with normal eye sight, along with their family members, were guided by visually challenged students of Roman and Catharine School for Blind.

The clues for the treasure hunt were written in Braille so that the visually challenged could guide the drivers. The journey took one and half hours to reach Panambur beach, the culmination point where cultural programmes were held afterwards. Thirty-five cars were used for this game.

Seventeen visually challenged students of Ashakiran School for Blind, Chikmagalur, also took part in the game. They were provided accommodation and food by the organizers.

Winners of the competition were given Braille and audio watches made by Titan.

Prabha Kudwa, social worker and trustee, School for Blind, was present on the occasion.
