Mangalore, Nov 16: Kota Shrinivas Poojary asserted that power decentralization could be achieved with the unity of members of gram panchayat.

He was delivering his inaugural speech at the inaugural function of a newly incorporated Mangalore Taluk Panchayat Presidents and Vice-presidents’ Federation held at Taluk Panchayat Hall on Monday November 15. Speaking further, he said that financial liberty can be achieved through unity among gram panchayat members. He pointed out that gram panchayat is defamed for its slow pace of work, thus with the introduction of this federation, more issues can be discussed, shared resulting in good administration at the gram panchayat level.

He urged for the implementation of third financial project in the state. He asserted politics in gram panchayat level may cause harm to society and added that if gram panchayat fails to collect taxes from the people on time, government may fail to provide necessary funds to the gram panchayat.

He also urged that the newly formed federation should meet at a regular interval. The federation consists of 49 gram panchayats. The president and vice-president are elected with the purpose of availing more authority to panchayat in its administration. The federation will also work towards finding solutions to the ongoing problems of gram panchayats.
