Mangalore, Nov 16: Two organizations, through separate memorandums submitted to Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner on Monday November 15, urged him to take precautionary measures to enable Muslims to celebrate Bakrid fearlessly, in a peaceful environment.

A delegation led by Muslim Central Committee vice-president, Haji Ibrahim Kodijal, sought adequate police protection during Bakrid on November 17, and also for enabling the Muslims to conduct the ‘Qurbani’ ritual without any hitches. General secretary of the committee, Muhammed Hanif, Ahmed Bava Padil, Hamid Kudroli, and several others were in the delegation.

On behalf of ‘Anti Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill 2010 Movement’, a petition was delivered to the deputy commissioner on Monday, saying that the said act aims at creating problems for the minorities and dalits. They said that even as the bill is awaiting the approval of the President of India, the Sangh Parivar has been misleading the public to believe that the bill has already become an act. As activists are creating hurdles in the transportation and slaughter of cattle, the organization demanded strict legal action to contain these activists. The organization sought steps on behalf of the government to enable Muslims to celebrate Bakrid in a free and fair manner.

Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike district president, Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, honorary president, C N Shetty, PUCL state president, P B D’Sa, Karnataka State Dalit Sangharsh Samiti leader, Nirmal Kumar, Catholic Sabha secretary, Nigel Pereira, president of Meat Merchants Association, Ali Hassan, PUCL secretary, Kabir Ullal, Konkani writer, Victor D’Silva, social worker, Augustine Rodrigues, and several others were in the delegation.

MLA, U T Khader, has also urged the district administration to take preventive steps to ensure that no untoward incidents occur in the district during the celebration of Id-ul-zuha from November 17 to 20.

Ali Hassan, president of Meat Merchants Association, said that on the occasion of this holy festival, which represents sacrifice and service, people can use the services of the slaughter house in Kudroli in the city for the performance of ‘Qurbani’ procedure.
