Chikmagalur, Nov 18: Anil Kumble, who has filed nomination papers as a candidate for the post of the president of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and Javagal Srinath, who is trying his hand at becoming the cricketing body’s secretary, said that they aim at streamlining the functioning of the association by working together to chalk out programmes to give a definite thrust to the body.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the fans and local members of KSCA as part of their tour of the state to garner support for them at the Gold Club here on Wednesday November 17, they said that it would be wrong on their part to pass any comments about the functioning of others. They insisted that their only focus will be cricket and its interests.

“Having been experienced in this field, we have a definite aim and vision. If we are elected, we will collect opinions of everyone concerned and then make efforts to rejuvenate the organization and take up creative programmes. We have the experience of watching cricket matters right from village to international level. People should note that most of the members of the Indian cricket team hail from rural areas,” they said.

They felt that although playing of cricket is an important issue, there should a planned approach for the same, and the players should be provided with facilities like play ground, training etc. “We strongly believe that no decision should be taken at individual level. As the expectations of the people are too high, the responsibility to draw up plans to meet them lies on us,” they stated.

The duo has received support from their former colleague, Rahul Dravid. Addressing a press conference at Bangalore on Wednesday, Dravid said that KSCA needs a change as many things were not happening there. He said that both Srinath and Kumble bring with them rich experience and fresh ideas, and therefore felt that they need to be given an opportunity to run KSCA administration.
