Udupi, Nov 30: Deputy commissioner (DC) M Kurma Rao, noted that the people appear to be shedding the habit of wearing masks in public places on account of reduced corona scare. He said that because of the renewed coronavirus concerns, everyone has to wear a mask in public places and maintaining social distance is a must even in the limits of local bodies and gram panchayats. This rule applies also for public meetings and functions, he insisted.

Speaking at a meeting with the leaders of different communities and doctors from the district on Monday November 29, he directed the concerned to undertake mask drives all over the district including bus stands and commercial complexes to sensitise the people about the importance of wearing masks.

"Our district has achieved 93 percent in first dose vaccination. I request leaders of communities and doctors to convince the remaining seven percent to get vaccinated. We have taken steps to vaccinate people visiting Udupi from other districts and states," he explained. He asked the doctors to check whether the patients approaching them have been vaccinated. If not, they should convince them of the need to do so. In the prescriptions also they have to prescribe vaccination and to get tested for coronavirus infection if they have symptoms, he added.

The DC said that ASHA workers have been conducting door to door visits with voters’ lists to vaccinate people. He advised that ward level workforce committee meetings should be held in gram panchayats and urban local body limits to collect information about those who have not been vaccinated and to educate them.

Additional deputy commissioner Balakrishnappa, urban development cell project director Pratibha, district health and family welfare officer Dr Nagabhushan, municipal commissioner Uday Shetty, leaders of different communities, doctors from Indian Medical Association and AYUSH doctors were present.
