Bengaluru, Jan 1: The state government had decided to vaccinate children between the age group of 15 to 18 years as the cases of Omicron variant of Covid are increasing.
Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai has instructed all the district in-charge ministers and MLAs to get the drive started on January 3 in all districts.
Though DGCI has approved to administer vaccine to children between the age groups of 12 to 18 years, the union government has decided to vaccinate children between the ages of 15 to 18 years. The names need to be registered on CoWin portal. Vaccination will be given on priority.

Identity card of 10th grade will be uploaded on site as identification document. At present only Covaxin will be administered. A gap of 28 days is specified for this purpose.
In addition to vaccination of children, booster dose will be given to elderly people. Nine months gap is required from second dose to booster dose.
From January 3 vaccination campaign for children in the age group of 15 to 18 and booster dose for those who are above 60 years will be held in the state.
Guidelines:
- Children who are born before or in 2007 are eligible to get vaccinated. Two doses of Covaxin vaccination will be administered with a gap of 28 days.
- Special awareness meetings will be held for parents before administering vaccination to children
- Beneficiary children have to register on their own mobile number or by using the mobile number of their parents. If these are not available, then the telephone number of school head master or head teacher can be used.
- School ID card or Aadhar card needs to be presented during vaccination
- Children with sickness should be supervised by the doctors in health centres itself
- Those who are not getting vaccinated at schools should be identified and vaccinated in nearby health centres.
Booster dose for health workers and comorbid people who are 60 years and above can be obtained through their already existing CoWin account.
