Beltangady: All-religious Meet at Deepotsava Stresses on Mutual Harmony, Honest Living

Beltangady, Dec 5: “Respecting every living being is the essence of any religion and motivating the
people to lead honest life is what true religion is all about”, said Sri Avadheshananda Giri Maharaj,
founder of Prabhu Premi Sangha, Haryana.

He was speaking after presiding over the Sarvadharma Sammelana (All-religious meet) organized
as a part of Lakshadeepotsava at Dharmasthala here on Saturday December 4.

Speaking further he said that it is not right to steal the happiness and damage the image of others.
Before doing anything one must realize that what might be hurting to oneself can equally hurt others.
Without hard-work taking the benefit with ease is not a good quality and it can never give real
happiness to anyone, he added.

He wished that the number of people who would willingly strive for the happiness of others, who would
not hesitate to extend a helping hand to the one in need increases in India as the country was always
known for humanity and brotherhood.

Earlier inaugurating the Sammelana, Shivaraj V Patil retired judge of Supreme Court of India said that
the values and ethics which were initially framed in the Constitution for the well-being of the country
and its citizens have not attained its purpose. It is mainly due to the still-prevailing black marks such as
caste-discrimination, poverty, corruption and the like, he pointed out. If these things are eliminated
from the nation it can move on a much progressive path, he asserted.

Puttur Maulavi U K Abdul Aziz Darimi, Bellary Bishop Fr Henry D'Souza and retired lecturer P Anantaraj
Indra gave a religious discourse on the occasion.

Sheela Unnikrishnan and troupe of Chennai presented a dance ballet at the cultural programme held in
the evening. Later Kanchimarukatte Utsava was held.

When you call the priests of other religion, you should give them equal treatment. Mr. Hegde and the swami were provided with royal chairs, the Christian and the Muslim religious leaders had to compromise with plastic chairs. Is the Hindu Swami superior to the Christian Father and the Muslim Moulvi? Either should not call the leaders other or treat all the invited guests equally. I condemn such double standard by the organiser.

Honesty is the "KEY" that should reflect upon each and every leader in our great country that will automatically inspire each and every citizen to respect each one's religion and culture. Secular values in India can only flourish thru honesty so that we can uproot the causes of corruption that will defeat our hard earned value of independance and democracy. The importance of honesty should be taught in every school so that our young students cherish the virtues gathered thru honesty. Educational values silverlined thru honesty can make India the most powerful nation on this earth. Let "Deepotsava" continue to stress the importance of honesty at all levels and at all ages and religions so that our ever growing population of India will benefit the most thru mutual respect and mutual cooperation.

Dr. Hamid is an Egyptian scholar and author, is an Islamic thinker and reformer, and one time Islamic extremist from Egypt. He was a member of a terrorist Islamic organization Jamaa Islamiya with Dr. Ayman Al-Zawahiri, who later became the second in command of Al-Qaeda. Some twenty-five years ago, Dr. Hamid recognized the threat of radical Islam and the need for a reformation based upon modern peaceful interpretations of classical Islamic core texts. Dr. Hamid provided a fresh and theologically valid interpretation for the Quran to counterbalance the radical teaching.

Dr. Hamid's exceptional knowledge of the jihadi mindset has caused him to be invited as a guest speaker at private and governmental fora around the world. Dr. Hamid has a unique insight into the minds of radical terrorists and wants to share ways in which he can positively influence their way of thinking and end their violent actions. He says "I am a Muslim by faith.... a Christian by spirit....a Jew by heart....and above all I am a human being."
Dr. Tawfik Hamid. violence and hatred toward Non-Muslims. We Muslims are the ones who need to change. Until now we have accepted polygamy, the beating of women by men, and killing those who convert from Islam to other religions.
He questions the concept of wars, to spread “our religion and to subjugate others to Islam and force them to pay a humiliating tax called Jizia.” “While all the time we curse them, and teach our generations to call them infidels"

Why not a single sentence of Bellary Bishop Most Rev Henry D'Souza was mentioned? Unfortunately, even the Bishop's name is not mentioned. Was the Bishop's name deliberately blanked out? But fortunately, the Bishop's photographs have been published.

I very much appreciate some of the observations of Mr. Santhosh Bhandary, Mangalore/Dubai. If we consider followers of other religions to be stupid and infidels and killing them is rewarded even here on earth and in heaven, there we have fertile ground for terrorism. Religion is brotherhood, respect, sharing and defending the dignity of each person.

    Dear friends,

One of the worst evils of the society is not the religion itself but the magical approach, commercialization and distinct stereotype way it is being practised around us, creating unwanted barriers against other religions. People blindly practise such rituals of no eternal significance at the instance of handful of selfish preachers. Fast growing number of mushrooming Shrines in the region with commercial advertisements to attract pilgrims are evidence of our lost track of religion. Who can preach the truth that the real religion is in the humanity services (Karma) that we render for the benefit of the society and not the volatile ritualistic faith that we stereotypically practise. May God send more genuine prophets to enlighten us and lead us all through his true path of eternity.

    Kind regards
    Lawrence Saldanha, Kanajar

Religion is supposed to bring us closer to God, which should certainly uplift us and show us that we are all spiritual beings. The problem is that each religion implies, or comes right out and says, that it is the best or the only way to God. All others are inferior and should be ignored, dominated, pushed away, or even destroyed by force.
In Ashoka's Edicts, it is rightfully stated, "Never think or say your religion is the best. Never denounce the religion of others. But honor in them whatever is worthy of honor."
God sends not just one but as many messengers and representatives as it takes to help guide and deliver all beings from material existence. The essence of that message, and all genuine religion, is the same. They all teach us that we should not evolve around material life but keep moving toward pure spiritual existence. The essential method in all religions is simple: Believe that God is all supreme, most beneficent & the most merciful, love & respect all His creations around us including the fellow human beings and live that way at all times.
My message to Amar, Akbar & Antony is to love one another and live in peace as fellow human being. Long live the world civilized society!

This is a wonderful step towards religious harmony. This has to be an ongoing process. Just one off incidents don't really help us. I am a practicing hindu but I respect all religions. After all religions and divisons are man made. All are equal human beings. We all have identical bodies, we breath the same air, we eat the same food, we use the same medicines, we all live and we all die. The sun shines and also the rain falls equally on all people. So where is the difference ? Is any religion free from all diseases ? Is any religion free from death ? Politicians and religious fanatics create all unrest and differences for their own benefit and poor people get carried away. This is a tragedy affecting our society. Religion is a private affair and we all have to respect peoples' right of religious freedom. Even some religious fanatics keep making inflammatory statements from time to time to create religious unrest, attack the minorities and so on. So let us all wake up and live like one single community.

“Respecting every living being is the essence of any religion and motivating the people to lead honest life is what true religion is all about”. The golden words of Sri Avadheshananda Giri Maharaj. This type of teaching & preaching should be done to every human, especially during the childhood instead of sowing hatred and teaching to use swords, sticks and promoting violence to younger generation which will only cripple the progress of our great India. Nice pictures. Similar all religious meetings should be arranged regularly which will enhance unity and build stronger India. Thanks 'Daiji' for super news coverage and pictures.
