Vasco, Mar 9: Police have registered an FIR against a woman from Vasco who holds Portugal nationality for allegedly submitting forged documents and misleading authorities to have her name included in the electoral roll of the Vasco Assembly Constituency.

According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Elizabeth Luis from Bhuteabhat in Vasco, allegedly suppressed information about her Portuguese citizenship while submitting documents during the Special Intensive Revision process carried out by the Election Commission of India.

The complaint was filed by Pravinjay Pandit, mamlatdar of Mormugao taluka and the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) for the Vasco constituency. In his statement, Pandit said the accused submitted an enumeration form declaring herself eligible for inclusion in the voters’ list while allegedly concealing her foreign nationality.

The form was reportedly submitted during the revision exercise through the Booth Level Officer attached to the Mormugao Municipal Council and later forwarded to the mamlatdar’s office.

Police have registered a case against Luis under Sections 223, 236 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, which deals with making false declarations in connection with electoral rolls.

Authorities said further investigation is underway to verify the documents submitted and determine the circumstances under which the alleged forgery was carried out.
